And I Did

You just walked into my life

one day

without any warning.

I wasn't even expecting you.

But there you were ....

It was only a four line message you sent,

but it was powerful.

You basically told me to pay attention to details!

And I did.

You wrote, "I received a blank email from you.

Perhaps it was a mistake.

If so, I'm sorry to have bothered you.

If not, then please put some words on it

and resend."

That was about all you said.

That's about all you needed to say, I guess.

I thought, How unusual that he responded

to a blank email ...

...I really should reply.

And I did.

I wrote, "Oh, don't be sorry.

I'm so glad you responded.

You sound like such a nice guy.

I don't know anyone else who would respond to a blank email."

" Actually ," I continued , " sometimes I'm very lonely

and I'd really like to get to know you."

And I did.

Our love story actually began with a blank page.

A page upon which nothing had been written.

A page upon which we could write

any crazy messages we wanted.

I was thinking of one I wanted to write.

And I did.

It wasn't long until you told me

about yourself.

You told me you were looking for me

Well, not exactly in those words .....

But I knew you were.

So I thought I should tell you that you'd found me ...

just so you would know.

And I did.

Soon, the blank page was full of words

ordinary words we used

to create beautiful, out-of-the-ordinary pictures.

Representations of our hearts and souls.

You were such a fine and sensitive artist.

And I thought I should tell you that too.

And I did.

Finally, we filled the empty page

with tender love notes

and a gazillion hugs and kisses.

Very soon I knew the time had come

to tell you that I had definitely begun

to pay attention to detail.

There was one little detail I'd been holding back

for quite a while.

And now I knew it was time to tell you

I love you.

And I did.
